CHANEL BUTTONS UP THE COMPETITION

Today’s What the Cupcake?! 🚫🧁Moment is c/o #worldipreview

After receiving a series of letters from Chanel alleging trademark infringement, Button Jewelry by Val Colbert (BJVC) is seeking a declaratory judgement settling the issue once and for all.

Chanel complains that BJVC’s use of salvaged Chanel buttons as jewelry amounts  to infringement of Chanel’s products.  🙀WTCupcake 🧁🚫

Georgia-based BJVC has been creating jewelry (think necklaces, bracelets) from antique and designer buttons since 2006.

Interestingly, BJVC was not the only co to receive a complaint letter from Chanel. Accessory Drawer, an independent wholesale showroom in Atlanta, Georgia, which sold BJVC’s products received one, too.

BJVC doesn’t believe they are doing anything wrong explaining that they “purchase designer items through a variety of sources such as e-bay, second-hand or antique stores and private collectors. Our designer buttons are typically found by purchasing old apparel. The apparel is then donated to charity.”
